The New Moon in Virgo – August 27, 2022
By Carrie Gane
Enhancing Our Wholeness
We have a new moon in the astrological sign of Virgo (Hazel/Grapevine) on Saturday, August 28th, 2022 at 3:17 a.m. CST. Like last month, we begin this new moon with another grand fixed cross. The wisdom we gained through last month’s grand square and multiple retrograde planets is being expanded upon by the Universe.
All the same planets hold the energy of the square at the new Moon except one. Mercury has moved on and Venus has come to take its place.

Last month, Mercury asked us to know and voice the true expression of ourselves. One way we do this is through our words. Venus now asks us to build upon that. With Venus, we must remember to love the authentic expression of ourselves.
With Venus in Leo, we must love our true essence, regardless of what we are saying or feeling in the moment. Venus in Leo asks us to step up and be proud of our unique essence and talents, for we are one of the many faces of the Divine. We must not let fears about how we will be received by others create a mask to hid ourselves behind. We can let our true light shine, perceived flaws and all!
There are three other corners of energy to this grand square. Below is a review of the framework these other energies are continuing to hold:
Saturn in Aquarius wants us to connect with our inner light. It is the source of our creative energy and when we let this light shine, we are the creative architects of our world.
The South Node of the Moon in Scorpio asks us to relinquish our old emotions and old dramas and traumas. Scorpio says it is time to go into the darkness within and allow ourselves to be renewed.
The North Node of the Moon in Taurus wants us to experience the Divine Light of our Spirit in our human bodies. We can tend our own inner garden and whatever we plant within ourselves we will see bloom in our world, cultivating a sense of heaven on Earth.
Uranus in Taurus is “blended” (conjunct) with the North Node in Taurus. Uranus wants us to feel the freedom that comes with knowing our self-worth. Uranus blesses us with the Divine love from the Universe. It reminds each of us that we are so very needed as a unique part of the Universal Plan.
To note- At the new moon, we have Mars in Gemini squaring the Sun and Moon. Saturn in Aquarius will also have a strong imprint this month, squaring both Uranus and North Node in Taurus and the South Node in Scorpio all month. Let these be our rudders, helping to steer us towards discernment, union with the Divine and a healthy sense of self-worth.
States of consciousness are our tools…
We currently have all five outer planets in retrograde- Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. These outer planets effect our social circles and worldwide events. Yet they also influence our lesser- known states of consciousness.
- Jupiter and Neptune influence us at the unconscious/subconscious level of ourselves. They bring us tools to expand and reconnect to our sense of Divine self at our unconscious/ subconscious level.
- Saturn and Pluto influence us at the super conscious level of ourselves. They bring us the tools to see the Divine in action as ourselves.
- Uranus influences us at our foundational, soul level. It is where we find our supernal consciousness. It frees our soul to transcend our limitations and embrace ourselves as a very individualized state of the Divine, needed to form the wholeness of the Universe. Uranus invites us to celebrate new states of consciousness, to be free, free, free!
When a planet goes retrograde, it is a time to do the R’s- review, reevaluate, revise, release, rework, rebirth, rest. However, as Astrologer Jamie Partridge explains “Five retrogrades occurring at once is rare, occurring only 4 percent of the time.”
Outer planets are the bridge to our transpersonal nature. Outer planets help us understand the purpose of our existence and who we are.
When we see all five outer planets, the lunar nodes and Chiron in retrograde this month, it feels like a “RESET”. How are we being asked to harvest a deeper understanding of the purpose of our existence in this lifetime?
Virgo marks the end of a yearly cycle. Should we keep a balance this month between completion and a beginner’s mind? With a true beginner’s mind, we would see ourselves in a state of wholeness, because we “don’t know” and we haven’t judged or assigned labels yet. A beginner’s mind allows us to shift ourselves into a new paradigm because we see everything with new eyes, as if we’re experiencing it for the first time.
A beginner’s mind allows our unconscious, super conscious and supernal conscious to fill us with the knowing of our soul plan, our Spirit essence, and an understanding of the Divine Allness. We reconnect and rebirth our understanding of our transpersonal nature. We feel our connection to our Spirit-Soul.
When we come to know and understand the nature and needs of our Spirit-Soul, we step into our Divine power. We then know ourselves as Divine human beings with the Divine’s creative power within us. Is that not what Jesus taught?
Dane Rudhyar called the outer planets “the ‘higher octaves’ of the inner planets, hence they can be seen to express a higher level of purpose and integration”. In the group retrograde this month, I feel a vast space of stillness. There is the sense of a void, yet it is filled with wholeness of everything that can be. If we can use these long retrograde periods to enter this void and find the “higher octaves” of ourselves, then we will step back into our world with a greater level of purpose. We will experience greater Spirit- Soul integration within ourselves.
Our Spirit-Soul essence is what we are being asked to embrace at this time. For in our Spirit-Soul essence, there is healing, peace, joy, passion and bliss. We are not tossed around by the chaos of our outer world.
To note- Through my research, I discovered that we have been in a 7-year cycle of experiencing 5 or more simultaneous retrogrades each year. This cycle began in 2017 and will end in October 2023. 2020 and 2021 had much longer periods of simultaneous retrogrades, with 5-6 planets retrograding for 4-5 months at a time.
Does anyone remember a slow-down in our social circles or in world-wide events during 2020 and 2021?? Of course we do! Were we each doing a review and reassessment of how we interact with each other and our world at large during that time? Yes, each in our own way!
What are our metaphors for this New Moon’s wisdom?
The Sabian symbols for the new Moon and Sun at 4 degrees and 3 minutes in Virgo on August 27, 2022 are “A man dreaming of fairies”. The Sabian symbol for the Earth in the opposing position at 4 degrees and 3 minutes in Pisces is “A church bazaar”.
The quality here is creative genius. The shared motif is “A powerful house for all things and everyone,’ ‘the all-inclusive dream.’
“A man dreaming of fairies” suggests a dreamlike quality, where we can connect to other non-human realms. To explore and learn from those angelic beings and spirits who wish to assist us along our life’s path.
“A church bazaar” provides a feast of spirituality that is open and inclusive of all denominations and spiritual practices. Bazaar is a Persian term meaning a public market. Bazaars offer a wide, colorful variety of everything imaginable from everywhere. The word church is Greek, rooted in the meaning “power” and “master/lord”. Combined, we have a powerful umbrella under which all people can openly trade and find what they need without needing any qualifications. All things are traded and offered with a spirit of fun and wonder. There may be strange and unique finds from all corners of our world. There is an atmosphere of appreciation at a church bazaar. For it is a place where the vast diversity in the world is displayed in an open, inclusive and tolerant environment. All transpires in front of a backdrop of Divine presence.
Can we each tap into the all-inclusive dream that the Divine is dreaming?
To dream of a world where we see the riches of our differences. To have an open-mindedness that diffuses irreconcilable differences. Can we flow with it, from our own personal state of Divine wholeness? For within the I AM Dream, all manner of trade and exchange between different beings provides the housing for all people of the earth. We all live under the same Divine roof. The unseen presence of the Divine creates these energy exchanges for the betterment of all.
To note- At the full moon on September 10, 2022 at 4:59 am, we will find lots of grace and support from the Divine. The Sun, Moon and Earth are all heavily graced by the ease of trines and sextiles with Uranus, Pluto, North and South Node and a conjunction with Neptune. We also have a mystical triangle full of possibilities contained within it.
This full moon in Pisces will be like an envelope full of juicy ingredients to be opened and explored in the realms of creativity, spirituality and Oneness. Set aside some time at the full moon to simple float in the Divine River of abundance and soak in its healing nature.
